Gemstone 03:49
Face is wrinkled, hips are round, hair is white Her hands held babies and made great apple pie She sits in a soft chair playing the rosary By a photo of her husband from 1963 Worked as a nurse after her babies grew Her back in hunched over from having too much to do She sings out loudly and a little off key To records of Joan Baez and Elvis Prestley Her heart is a gemstone It's been polished by time She sparkles off her edges Has a twinkle in her eye She's a fierce and loving warrior She's an heirloom and a crone and now her body withers But her heart shines like a gemstone Her children come on Tuesday Say they'd like to visit more She made a quilt for the baby filled with moons and stars And everyday she wakes up in her 4 poster bed Thanks God for her family and her daily bread

about

This is a song that I wrote during the pandemic. It's inspired by many of the older women in my life, many of whom I deeply respect and love.
